ANCESTRY BRITISH CEYLON. Become a "Save The Ancestral Records Supporter".

There is an urgent need to photograph and digitally save vital British Ceylon records in churches and government offices in Sri Lanka today.
The images posted here are from an LDS film taken in the 1980s. As can be seen no attempt was made for preservation or even of piecing together of document fragments to make the records legible.
These records were in the Registry office in Colombo, and were from Churches of different denominations all over the Island. We have 150 plus images from the film.
Some British era churches have records from as early as 1834 just sitting in drawers, and other churches have consolidated the early records in the main church library in Colombo.
A quick survey in 2010 unearthed records in Colombo, Kandy, Galle and Matara which have never been transcribed or photographed.
The churches visited were Anglican, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist and Scots Kirk.
A book of known British Ceylon church records and their whereabouts world wide is imminent, and may spur on help in preserving or digitally photographing the remaining records for future generations. Larry&Coreen.
